We purchase our PLs (Post Larvaes) from a hatchery in Florida called Home Grown Shrimp
As of Feb 2024 we started buying them in batches of 20,000
Why are we called "Pansies and Prawn"?
When we first bought the farm we made a large purchase of flower pots from a landscaper in Moore. He asked us what we planned on doing with the farm and we told him we had no idea. Fall was coming and he said if we could provide him with flats of Pansies he would buy them. So we grew 10,000 pansies. Later that year we were at a local restaurant and the owner asked us what we were planning on doing with the farm we listed off about twenty ideas we had and shrimp was one of them. The restaurant owner said, "If you grow shrimp we will buy them". In October of 2023, we bought our first 2,000-gallon swimming pool and started to learn how to farm shrimp.
When we decided to form our LLC we weren't sure what name to go with, but we knew it wasn't going to be only about shrimp. Our goal with the farm is to educate ourselves and then educate the community. Our long-term goal is Agro Tourism. We might even set up some tiny house AirBNBs so people can come out for the weekend and enjoy the simple (LOL) life on a farm.
"Pansies and Prawn" is the whimsical name of who we are and how we got started. We now also have sheep and goats with rabbits coming soon. We'll probably end up with a five-acre zoo.
We see a giant tourtis in our future.
Technically we started with Chickens and ducks, but "Poultry and Prawn" sounds funny.
What do we feed them?
We feed them specially designed feed from Zeigler Feeds in Pennsylvania.
As the shrimp ages we change the type of feed they receive which changes the protien and fat ratio for optimum health and growth.
Do we only sell them whole?
Yes, we currently only sell them whole or "Head on".
We do not currently have a certified kitchen to process them.
We do not have plans in the near future to process them, but we may do this later.
How do we raise them?
We raise them in saltwater pools using a Bioflock system.
